Soo young and andy
Hi! We are Soo Young and Andy, a NYC-based couple and every year for the past three years (and seven for Soo Young), we’ve volunteered at iKhethelo Children’s Village. This year is no different as we head back to iKhethelo on June 22- July 1.
iKhethelo is a special place for us. It is a place where 48 children captured our hearts along with the people who oversee the children’s village. Every year since 2012, a volunteer team from NY has gone to iKhethelo. Over the years, our relationship with iKhethelo has deepened, and we’ve watched children become teens and some even head to college.
We are excited to go again this year with a team of 6 to run a one-week on-site camp with worship, bible studies, crafts and field trips. The trip will fall during a winter school break (remember, South Africa is on the other side of the equator!). In past years, we’ve hosted American-style barbecues, led crafts and went ice skating -- activities to keep them learning and having fun while they are on break from school.
We’re taking this trip through LoVE USA, a US-based non-profit that has been supporting iKhethelo Children’s Village for many years. We are so grateful and encouraged by all of the outpouring support over the past couple years. We are fundraising as a team, and each of us will be raising $2700 to covers flight, meals, transportation, etc. The rest goes toward the various projects we'll be doing while we're over there, as well as donations for iKhethelo. We will be covering the cost of our flights, but we invite you to support this trip and iKhethelo. The more we raise, the bigger the impact on the communities we are serving!
Trip Dates: June 22 - July 1
